EIGHT FOOT SQUARE – The Ribbons Return! What can you do in an 8ft square?
Posted: July 27, 2012 in UncategorizedInspired by how the fishermen of Hastings responded to the challenge of fitting huts to dry their nets on an 8ft square footprint between the cliffs and the beach, building their huts three storey high, our project looks to see what other people in the area can creatively do in 8ft square.
Request your free 8ft long ribbon to measure out your own eight foot square space. Experiment; create your own performance, installation, exhibition or workshop, individually or in a group. Then book your square for Saturday 18th August 2012 on The Stade Open Space, Rock-a-Nore Road, Hastings. All good family friendly fun, everyone is welcome to join in.
To be sent a ribbon or make a booking e-mail Jacqueline.Ede@hotmail.co.uk
Ahoy me hearties! Join 8 foot square for some free pirate themed sand-sculpting 11am – 5pm at the Stade Open Space, The Stade, Rock-a-Nore Road, Hastings this Sunday as part of Hastings Pirate Day.
Dress as a pirate to help Hastings attempt to reclaim the Guinness World Record for “Largest Gathering of Pirates” at 1.00pm on the beach.
With pirate music, stunt action sword fighting, a pirate market, real pirate wedding and spectacular finale by the Royal Air Force Red Arrows as they conduct a full display over the skies of Hastings for the first time in nearly a quarter of a century.

For anyone who is in or around Hastings – or who feels like a trip to the seaside – on Wednesday June 6 Parrabbola will be hosting the first staged reading of a new play by Brian Abbott, ‘Half a Cod a Day’, based on conversations with the Hastings fishing fleet. It’s a fun piece looking at serious issues which affect fishing communities, and we plan to tour it later this year.
