Did this giant dream-catcher in the Ore Adventure playground help us find our fortune today? Not quite, but old, new and foreign coins, a foil- wrapped shell, bulldog and hair clips, a paintbrush, half a marble and a ball containing metal were unearthed from The Bridge Community Gardens today. For more metal-detecting fun join us at Eight Foot Square Day on The Stade Open Space, Rock-a-nore Road, Hastings 1-6pm to hunt for treasure on the beach.

Inspired by how the fishermen of Hastings responded to the challenge of fitting huts to dry their nets on an 8ft square footprint between the cliffs and the beach, building their huts three storey high, our project looks to see what other people in the area can creatively do in 8ft square.
Request your free 8ft long ribbon to measure out your own eight foot square space. Experiment; create your own performance, installation, exhibition or workshop, individually or in a group. Then book your square for Saturday 18th August 2012 on The Stade Open Space, Rock-a-Nore Road, Hastings. All good family friendly fun, everyone is welcome to join in.

For anyone who is in or around Hastings – or who feels like a trip to the seaside – on Wednesday June 6 Parrabbola will be hosting the first staged reading of a new play by Brian Abbott, ‘Half a Cod a Day’, based on conversations with the Hastings fishing fleet. It’s a fun piece looking at serious issues which affect fishing communities, and we plan to tour it later this year.
