Hastings’ Stade Saturdays series – the outdoor events for everyone – takes a home grown twist this week, with the ever popular Eight Foot Square Day, presented by Parrabbola

This is the performance day for local people and groups. Whether it’s musical, dramatic, exotic or a little bit strange, see the people of Hastings and St Leonards take their chance to show what they can do – arts and performance wise – in a space that’s only 8 x 8 – the same size as the nearby iconic fishermen’s net shops.

There will be lots to see and do all afternoon – come and make puppets for stop animation films, try your skill at hula hooping. There will be circus skills from the Improbable Circus and why not get your face painted with Fran?

Our Eight Foot Square Stade Saturday begins with a guest performance from The Shout Project – a new type of performance that allows you to step into the world of young people who live in the town, discovering their stories, their dreams and their realities. It’s an adventure that will show you Hastings, trough different eyes. And it concludes in the evening with a flashmob Fitness Rave – a chance to get active, and performances from Hula Hooper extraordinaire Angie Mackman.

During the past few months, the Parrabbola team have been working with The Craftimation Factory to take puppet making workshops into local community groups. We’ve worked right across Hastings and St Leonards, with groups of all ages and have made some amazing characters. Now, we’re going to use the puppets we’ve made to develop some stop animation films, which we’ll screen on the day. So come and join in – make a puppet, make a film.

Musicians – there’s an open mike slot running through the day from 3.00 pm as well, just come down and we’ll put you on our Eight Foot Square stage.

And if anyone else has something they’d like to try in an Eight Foot Square space, then come and collect some marker ribbons and join in too – everyone is welcome, and best of all – it’s all free as part of the Stade Saturdays series, funded and commissioned by Hastings Borough Council and co programmed by Parrabbola.

Eight Foot Square activities start at 2.00 pm and before that there’s the Coastal Currents performance from Reckless Sleepers at 1.00 pm. Activities and performances will conclude at 8.00 pm.
