The Stage is Set

Inspired by how the fishermen of Hastings responded to the challenge of fitting huts to dry their nets on an 8ft square footprint between the cliffs and the beach, building their huts three storey high, our project looks to see what other people in the area can creatively do in 8ft square.

Back for our third year, request your free 8ft long ribbon to measure out your own eight foot square space. Experiment; create your own performance, installation, exhibition or workshop, individually or in a group. Then book your square for SATURDAY 31st AUGUST 2013 on The Stade Open Space, Rock-a-Nore Road, Hastings. All good family friendly fun, everyone is welcome to join in.

Coastal Currents Arts Festival, Hastings & St Leonards 2013

Deadline for applications is 12 noon on the 5th August 2013.

Presented around the world, this unique dance work sees human bodies squeezed into the most unlikely nooks and crannies of urban and street architecture, creating a fast moving, sculptural trail of human bodies.
Bodies in Urban Spaces by Austrian choreographer Willi Dorner will be presented in Hastings as part of the Coastal Currents Festival on the 21st and 22nd September 2013.

So if you are a dancer, actor, circus or acrobat enthusiast, parkour runner, yoga or martial arts expert or just a gym enthusiast then please do come along to audition.
This is a brilliant professional development opportunity; creating and performing an internationally renowned and groundbreaking work with other professional artists.

Selection for the project will be by audition, which will take place on Friday August 9th at the Concordia Hall in St Leonards, Church Road, St Leonards, East Sussex, TN37 6HB. The nearest train station is Warrior Square, which is a 10 minute walk away.
The times of the audition are 6 – 9pm.

Professional dance experience is not necessary, but a good level of physical strength and fitness is essential.

Coastal Currents is managed by Creative Coast and home live art on behalf of Hastings Borough Council

As I’m sure everyone in Hastings is well aware, Hastings and 1066 country is one of the candidates for UK City of Culture 2017.

Our bid is exciting and has some really great opportunities for participation – and eight foot square will certainly have a part to play.
